The technology is based on solar heat being collected during spring and summer and stored in an insulated layer of stone powder in the ground. When energy demand increases during winter, the heat is retrieved using a heat pump.
The storage gradually heats up during the summer, reaching its highest temperature in early autumn. The energy is then used during the winter months, before the cycle starts again in the spring.
